VISUAL AIDS FOR TURF RUNWAYS AT UTILITY AIRPORTS

FAA-NA-76-159 Author: Robert F. Gates

VISUAL AIDS FOR TURF RUNWAYS AT UTILITY AIRPORTS

The study contained in this report was made in support of a Federal Aviation Administration program to define, develop and evaluate visual aids for turf runways at Utility Airports. The Director of Aeronautics for the State of New Jersey requested that the program be undertaken because of the record of operating problems experienced at turf runway airports within the state. Considerable support for the program has developed in other state aviation offices and every state aviation official invited to participate in the advisory panel for the work program accepted and participated. The program objective is to have in-service trials on visual aid components developed at NAFEC, and by having state aviation officials assist in the program, those states represented would be key states participating in the follow-up phase of the development.
