Unmanned Aircraft System-based Airfield Lighting Measurement Testing

Unmanned Aircraft System-based Airfield Lighting Measurement Testing:  Darian Byrd, Michael DiPilato, and Garrison Canter from the FAA’s Airport Technology Research and Development (ATR) branch, along with a team from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), oversaw testing of an unmanned aircraft system (UAS)-mounted photometer payload on the FAA Research Taxiway at Cape May Airport on July 9, 2024.  This custom photometer payload was developed by RPI researchers as part of a study exploring the feasibility of using UAS to measure the intensity of airfield light fixtures under an ATR-funded grant.
