Summary of Survey Responses of Airport Experience with Pavement Surface Treatments

DOT/FAA/TC-TN22/7 Authors: Peter-Paul Dzwilewski, David Peshkin, Arturo Espinoza, Sharlan Montgomery Dunn, and Russell Ashburn

The Federal Aviation Administration Airport Technology Research and Development Branch sponsored a study of pavement surface treatments with two main objectives: to identify best practices and to propose guidance for selecting surface treatments as the appropriate treatment strategy for airport pavements. In August 2021, an online survey was distributed to airport operators and their consultants to collect information about their experiences using surface treatments on airport pavements. This technical note describes the use of surface treatments on airport pavements as reported in those survey responses. This technical note includes a summary of the responses regarding treatment use, pavement background information, treatment specifics, and treatment extended performance. A blank survey and the detailed survey results are included as appendices.
