Dr. David Brill from the Airport Technology Research & Development (ATR) branch attended the 9th meeting of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Aerodrome Pavement Expert Group (APEG) in Montreal, Canada, on May 14-17, 2024. Attendees also included Jeff Crislip of the FAA Airports Design & Construction Branch (AAS-110); representatives from the International Coordinating Council of Aerospace Industries Associations (ICCAIA) and Airports Council International (ACI); along with representatives from Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, and the United Kingdom. On May 17, Dr. Brill presented an update on the National Airport Pavement Test Facility (NAPTF) Construction Cycle 9 (CC9) Overload Test. Other topics included Pavement Condition Rating (PCR) analysis; updating ICAO documents governing runway surface treatments and equivalency to porous friction course (PFC)/grooved surfaces; and developing new guidance materials related to sustainability, climate change effects, and airport resilience.
