Dr. Navneet Garg from the FAA Airport Technology Research & Development (ATR) branch was co-author for a paper presented at the 6th International Symposium on Pavement, Roadway, and Bridge Life Cycle Assessment (LCA 2024) held on June 6-8, 2024, in Arlington, Virginia. Dr. Garg’s paper, Updates and Demonstration of the FAA Airfield Life Cycle Assessment Tool: A Taxiway Case Study, was co-written with A.A. Butt, N. Titterton, J. Harvey, and I. Filani, and was presented by Dr. Butt from the University of California (UC), Davis. Dr. Garg is the project manager for a UC-Davis project that is developing a web-based life cycle assessment tool, FAA Life Cycle Analysis (FAALCAn), which quantifies the environmental impacts of airport pavement construction projects. FAALCAn is the only tool available for life cycle assessment of airfield or highway pavements. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) plans to build upon FAALCAn to develop a web-based life cycle assessment tool for highway pavements. This project highlights the cooperation between FAA, FHWA, and academia.
