Qingge Jia / Monday, May 15, 2023 / Categories: News Australian Flexible Pavement Association visit A delegation from the Australian Flexible Pavement Association (AFPA) visited the Airport Technology Research & Development (ATR) Pavement Test Facilities on April 25, 2023. Dr. Richard Willis, Vice President of Engineering, Research & Technology for the US National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA), also attended. The visit included tours of the pavement test facilities NAPTF, NAPMRC, and Materials Testing Laboratory. Discussion topics included evolution of FAA asphalt material specifications, research on low-embodied carbon materials, use of recycled materials in airport asphalt pavements, and life cycle assessment (LCA). Representatives of the Australian Flexible Pavement Association visited the Airport Technology Research & Development Pavement Test Facilities. The AFPA is the peak body for the multi-billion-dollar asphalt pavement industry in Australia. AFPA delegates visited the US in April as part of their 2023 International Knowledge Transfer (IKT) program to discuss their progress towards sustainable best practices in pavements. During the IKT tour, AFPA representatives met with international leaders in Federal and State Departments of Transportation, university and research organizations, contractors, and industry associations.
