Wander Pattern
A fixed wander pattern was applied to the traffic during the
tests. The wander pattern consisted of 66 repetitions, 33 traveling east and 33
traveling west. The transverse position of the gears was changed only at the
start of the eastward repetitions. That is, westward repetitions always had the
wheels following in the same paths as in the preceding eastward repetition. The
wander pattern was designed to simulate a normal distribution with standard
deviation of 775 mm (30.5 in) (equivalent to a taxiway distribution for
design). The distribution of the transverse wheel positions is not random, but
consists of nine equally spaced wheel paths at intervals of 260 mm (10.25 in).
The pattern is similar to the patterns used in previous full-scale airport pavement
traffic tests, except that one wander cycle includes a larger number of
repetitions than were typically used before (Ahlvin et al. 1971).

Alternate MWHGL Wander Pattern
A Multiple Wheel Heavy Gear Load (MWHGL) fixed wander pattern was applied for one day to the CC-3 trafficking. The wander pattern consisted of 30 repetitions, 15 traveling east and 15 traveling west. The transverse position of the gears was changed only at the start of the eastward repetitions. The use of larger aircraft requires the need to compact more landing wheels into the same space as conventional sized aircraft. The MWHGL wander pattern is designed to represent an increase in landing wheels of taxing aircraft. The alternate MWHGL wander pattern differs from the standard CC-3 wander pattern by focusing the trafficking closer to the center track of the wander pattern. Also, the MWHGL differs by reducing the distance between tracks of the wander pattern from 0.520 meters to 0.456 meters.
